This was current as of 3/20/04.  Since Kaze-Blue started making a glossary, it reminded me that I was thinking of posting one at some point, too.  Then, I recalled how MrAnderson wrote up a very comprehensive list. ^_^

The format is:
Romaji - How the term is denoted in AKraze Inuyasha subs
Definition/Description

We can start adding to it and/or modify existing term entries in our own time if people mention it in the Glossary discussion thread.  This thread will be locked to maintain cohesion.

Enjoy,

The AK Inuyasha Team ^^

v1.1 Updates - Added Kaede and Ryuuja no Mai.  Added alternative translation for the attack, Bakuryuuha.

Basic Inuyasha Terminology

Shikon no Tama - Shikon no Tama
-A magical jewel borne of the miko Midoriko in her epic struggle against a conglomeration of many youkai in a cave somewhere outside of Sango's home village.  As Miroku explains several times throughout the series, the Shikon no Tama is comprised of four souls (hence its name), and they are: Courage, Friendship, Wisdom, and Love.  The jewel is believed to have tremendous powers (even its shards can boost a youkai's youki or a human's malicious intent tremendously).

Shikon no kakera - Shikon shard(s)
-This term refers to the broken pieces of the Shikon no Tama that Inuyasha and Naraku's groups are collecting.

Sengoku Jidai - Warring States Period
-Refers to the historical period in Japan, believed to be around the late 16th century, in which a majority of the show "Inuyasha" takes place.

Youkai - Youkai
-Youkai are traditional Japanese demons as seen on Inuyasha.  The ones in Inuyasha are typically portrayed as demonically mutated snakes or humanoid monsters, no real creepy looking youkai as some of the ones described in Japanese folklore are portrayed.  (Translator/Editors: We only treat "youkai" as a proper noun if it is the start of a sentence, such as "Youkai are attacking my village!", but in any other case, it is lower-case.)

Hanyou - Hanyou
-A half youkai, such as Inuyasha or Naraku. (TL/ED: Use the "Youkai" rule)

Youki - Youki
-Youki is a youkai's power.  If Inuyasha says "His youki is incredibly strong", then it means the guy has some pretty sweet demon power. (TL/ED: This term also uses the same rule as "Youkai")

Youryouku - Youkai powers
-A demon's youkai powers, Inuyasha's being Sankontessou and Hijinkessou.  Youryouku might also be used to describe a youkai’s youki as well. (TL/ED: “Youkai” rule)

Jyaki- Jyaki
-Jyaki is a youkai's demonic aura.  If Inuyasha says "His jyaki is incredibly evil", it means that the guy is probably wicked, sinister, and all that good stuff. (TL/ED: This term also uses the same rule as "Youkai")

Miko - Miko
-A miko is a traditional Japanese Shinto (Japan's first known religion) priestess.  Some familiar mikos as seen so far in the series: Kikyou, Kaede, Midoriko, and Tsubaki. (TL/ED: "Youkai" rule)

Shouki - Shouki
-A poisonous gas used by powerful youkai. (TL/ED: "Youkai" rule)

Character Attacks

Sankontessou - Sankontessou
-Inuyasha's first "claw" attack, used just by slashing his claws at the enemy.

Hijinkessou - Hijinkessou
-Inuyasha's second "claw" attack, used by his hands being doused in blood, and then slashing his claws at the enemy, throwing "blades" of blood at the enemy (More effective when used close-range)

Kaze no Kizu - Kaze no Kizu
-Tessaiga's primary attack, it is used by cutting the "wind" between two clouds of youki.  After obtaining "Bakuryuuha", Inuyasha no longer had to "see" the wind and can use it freely (TL/ED: This translated to "Wound of the Wind" but I don't think we ever bothered to use a translation for it, so please be consistent and use "Kaze no Kizu)

Bakuryuuha - Bakuryuuha
-Tessaiga's "ultimate" attack as described by Toutousai.  Bakuryuuha works by enveloping a youkai's youki and reflecting it back at them, usually causing the resultant death or utter pwnage of the aggressor. (TL/ED: This translates to something close to "Exploding Flow Tear", (alt. Exploding Flow F*cking up of Sh*t) but please use "Bakuryuuha" for consistency's sake.

Ryuuja no Mai - Ryuuja no Mai
- Kagura's attack, works by spinning her fans to generate wind.  Translates to "Dragon Snake's Dance"

Kitsunebi - Kitsunebi
-Shippou's "fox fire" technique. It does absolutely nothing.  Ok, so it can heat food, as seen in one episode.  But that's about it.

Kitsune no Jitsu - Kitsune no Jitsu
-Shippou's "fox art" technique. It, too, does absoultely nothing.

Kazaana - Kazaana
-The curse cast upon Miroku's grandfather by Naraku has been passed down to Miroku and manifested within his right hand.  Kazaana is a giant "Wind Hole", much like a "black hole", sucking everything in and transporting it to some unknown place.  The curse is believed to steadily expand across Miroku's hand, the bigger it gets, the more powerful.  However the curse will one day be too large and suck Miroku himself in, taking his life (as it has been with his father and grandfather). Kazaana will not go away unless Naraku is killed.

Weapons

Tessaiga - Tessaiga
-Inuyasha's sword, left for him by his father.  Tessaiga seals Inuyasha's youkai blood, and if he is separated from it and engaged in combat where his life is threatened, he will transform into a "full youkai", a form that simulates the power of a real youkai.  Tessaiga has three attacks as listed above in the "Attacks" section.

Tenseiga - Tenseiga
-Sesshoumaru's sword, left for him by his father.  Tenseiga is a sword that heals, so any dead person that is "cut" by Tenseiga will revive.  I am uncertain if this works on skeletons or not, due to the fact that so far it has only been used on corpses.

Toukijin - Toukijin
-Sesshoumaru's second sword, crafted for him by the swordsmith Kaijinbou.  It's blade is made from the fangs of one of Naraku's earliest spawn, Goshinki, who broke the initial forge of Tessaiga.  Kaijinbou was Toutousai's apprentice at one time, but discharged from that position for making demonic swords.  The Toukijin is his finest demonic sword, and so far the only person it accepts as its master, is Sesshoumaru.

Hamafuda - Hamafuda
-Miroku's purifying scrolls, or paper charms.  They purify youryouku if they come into contact with it, however they do not work so well against strong youryouku, such as Naraku's

Nintoujyou - Nintoujyou
-Jaken's "Staff of Heads" that spews out fire upon his command.  It also was the key to breaking into Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's father's grave back when the show was still in single digits.

Hiraikotsu - Hiraikotsu
-Sango's giant boomerang that so easily tears through weak and strong youkai alike

Character Name Consistency

Inuyasha - Title character, a youkai from the Warring States Period sealed to the Goshinboku by Kikyou and unsealed from it by Kagome

Kagome - Main character, a fifteen year old girl from the present day (1997 if the year hath not changed in "Inuyasha")

Miroku - Buddhist monk with the Kazaana curse in his right hand

Sango - A youkai slayer/exterminator seeking to kill Naraku so that her younger brother Kohaku's memory will return to him

Shippou - A kid fox youkai who tags along with the group because he THINKS they are his friends

Kikyou - A dead miko who once was the protector of the Shikon no Tama and Inuyasha's lover.  She believes he was the cause of her death and hates him for it.
Kirara - Sango's cat youkai companion

Sesshoumaru - Inuyasha's older brother (half brother, rather) that seeks to kill Naraku for his own personal vendetta.

Jaken - Sesshoumaru's right hand man who carries the Nintoujyou and would give his live to save Sesshoumaru.

Rin - A human girl that was killed by Kouga's wolves and revived by the Tenseiga.  She is attached to Sesshoumaru due to this kindness

Kagura - Naraku's spawn that controls the wind.  She loathes Naraku and only does his bidding because he controls her heart, and would kill her otherwise.

Kanna - Naraku's spawn and Kagura's elder sister, she is able to suck out people's souls with her mirror, but the mirror nearly broke when she tried to take Kagome's

Kohaku - Sango's younger brother who is being directly controlled by Naraku.

Naraku - The main antagonist of the series, a human named Onigumo who once assimilated with many youkai to become the hanyou Naraku. He has the most Shikon shards and therefore the most power.

The Shichinintai - A group of seven mercenaries that were slain for unorthadox murder methods.  Revived by Naraku to kill his enemies, the group, consisting of Bankotsu (the leader), Jakotsu (the gay), Renkotsu (the monk), Suikotsu (the schizophrenic doctor), Ginkotsu (the only cyborg in the Warring States Era), Mukotsu (the midget poison user), and Kyoukotsu (the Warring States Era's "Goliath"). All were slain by Naraku's aggressors.

Toutousai - Swordsmith who forged both the Tessaiga and the Tenseiga

Houjou - Kagome's would-be boyfriend

Kouga - A wolf youkai who seeks to destroy Naraku for slaying his kinsmen.  In love with Kagome
and hates Inuyasha, profusely.

Hakkaku/Ginta - Kouga's two lackeys

Kaede - Kikyou's younger sister and friend to the Inuyasha group.

Mama - Kagome's mother

Grandpa - Kagome's grandfather

Souta - Kagome's little brother

Buyo - Kagome's fat cat

Yuka/Eri/Ayumi - Kagome's three best friends.

Akago - A baby born from Naraku at Hakureizan.  He possesses some of Naraku's powers

Mimisenri - A youkai who can hear things great distances away.  Naraku uses his ability to discover the location of the final Shikon shard.
