I haven't seen a post on it yet...but has any noticed the parallels between Johan and Hitler?
1) The first parallel thats a bit obvious but hidden is the fact that Johan should have died when he was a child. Had Tenma had not of operated on Johan, he would have died and all the trouble that has now happened because of Tenma's decision is coming back to haunt him as well as many others. 1) Hitlers mother was considering an abortion when she was pregnant with him. If Hitlers mother had follwed through with the abortion, it's very likely that the holocaust and every other action of Hitlers destruction would not have ever happened.
2) Many politicians have noticed the potential in Johan to attract people and are giving him tons of attention and support, all thinking that they have Johan on their side, but as stated in the anime, Johan hates everyone and every politician trying to use him is very wrong and it's coming back at them. 2) When Hitler was rising to power, tons of high offical politicans saw the potential in him and wanted to use him. They gave him even more power thinking he would simply be the facade of Germany and they would be pulling the strings. Obviously, they were all very wrong and many, even those who were close to Hitler, were killed by Hitlers orders.
3) Johan has many kids doing what he tells them, psychotic, deadly games. Why would any normal kid do this, wouldn't they all have to have some disorder already? No. It's hypnosis. No, not the type you see with a watch and "You're getting very sleepy.." but a perfect play of concealing your intentions, playing to the sympathies of others and manipulating them to do whatever it is you say and believe whatever you say to be truth. All the kids are orphans, people who are lost and looking for someone to guide them, they're very vulnerable and willing to accept Johan and anything he says. Though in the end, all he did was lead them into their own destruction. 3) During Hitlers rise to power, Germany was in very bad shape. He promised the people that he would pull the country out of the horrible state it was in and rebuild it into the only super-power in the world. He promised to create jobs, promised to make everything in the country better for those who were lost and needed guidance. Through propganda and lies, Hitler manipulated and did what is now called "Mass Hypnosis". He made all the people of Germany believe in him, gave them false hopes of power and a better future. In the end, he only lead them into destruction. This leads into my next parallel...
4) A bit less obvious is the fact that Johan is very attractive. Everyone sees him and thinks he must be some wonderful person; a blessing from above. On the inside, he is nothing but evil and destruction, full of bad intentions on the inside. 4) Hitler made Germany into a beautiful country. Any where you looked, which was of course controlled by where Hitler wanted you to look, was beautiful. The country had beautiful buildings, beautiful houses, gardens, mansions, everything. Though, no one occupied those houses, tended those gardens or any of the such. The country was still far from perfect none of Hitlers promises were ever given to the people. They still suffered in poverty and were starving. While he was openly torturing the Jews, his own "people" were no better off, still suffering the same fate, if not worse of being abandoned. (If you're unclear of this one, in essence, Johan's being parallels what Germany was during Hitlers reign. Beautiful outside, horrible inside.)
I'll state my conclusion here before the last parallel I'll state. The last one is a spoiler so do not read below this next paragraph if you've not read the whole manga.
The genius behind Monster is in the fact that its so well hidden, but every aspect of Johans being is directly related to Hitler. Even characters in the story can be linked to people around Hitler. The most apparent, Tenma. Tenma realized his mistake in letting Johan live and wants to fix it. Do you not think Hitlers mother wanted to possibly do the same thing when she realized the "Monster" she had brought into the world? Johan has many politicians after him, thinking that by giving him the power he wants, they have him in their lap to do their bidding. It's too late for them to realize how wrong they are, just as it was for those who threw Hitler the power he wanted.
Oh...I won't write it, but give you this last thought. Look closely at my parallels between Johan and Hitler. Take out the name Hitler and put George Bush. Of course not all actions, but many are similar. You can easily make tons of parallels between Bush and Hitler; nearly direct ones. But that's a whole other discussion...
Note that the next parallel I'm going to state is a HUGE spoiler, so if you've not read the entire Manga, STOP READING NOW!!
5) Towards the end of the manga, it's revealed that Johan's intention are nothing of what we saw or thought but that he's wanting to set up the "perfect suicide". In the wake of it all, he's taking down whoever else he can with him. 5) Hitler did very much the same thing though it may not have been his intentions all along. He rose to power quickly and did commit suicide, wether it was planned or he impulsive when he realized his empire was rapidly falling is unknown.
Edit: I went ahead and hid the 5th point behind spoiler tags so that it's not as easy to spot if you're planning on replying to this topic. --jalana
